Our Last Night at the Hyatt

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

Our blog server has been unavailable and I was unable to post earlier.

All of the groups/buses arrived back at the Hyatt by 7:30 PM. The Safety Patrols arrived excited from the sites they had seen today. Most shared that they had visited Mount Vernon today. Other sites seen included Arlington Cemetary; the Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam, WW II memorials; the White House (including the Presidential Inaugural Review Box); etc.

Now the Patrols and chaperones are celebrating their adventures or birthdays with pizzas and cakes. Sadly though we also have to plan to leave our great accommodations here at the Hyatt.

I’ll re-post in the morning after all our groups have left for their final day of tour.

Day 2 of Touring Has Begun

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

Our Safety Patrols were up early and eager to get their day started. All of our buses were loaded and on the way to breakfast.

Most of our buss will head out to Mount Vernon after breakfast. Then on to various sites such as Arlington National Cemetary and many more. I saw a group if chaperones this morning with a planned itinerary of 18 stops!

I’ll post later to keep you informed.

All in the at the Hyatt

Friday, January 11th, 2013

All buses with all of our Safety Patrols arrived at the Hyatt this evening before 8:00. They arrived in good spirits and were still excited from their full day of exploring the D.C. area.

The boys and girls made a promise to take a shower and to get a good night’s sleep. :) So, our Patrols are in their rooms getting freshened up, making sleeping arrangements, and talking about their day.

I’ll post in the morning after they have left the hotel and have returned to touring.

We Are in Washington!

Friday, January 11th, 2013

We arrived at Union Station at 9:40 this morning. All Safety Patrols and chaperones were off the train and boarding their tour buses by 10:10. Now, it’s off to tour our Nation’s Capital and all the local sites.

I’m sorry I fell asleep last night and didn’t post our location. But we made rapid, safe travel through the night. I’ll post again early evening as the buses arrive at the hotel.

Everyone is healthy and excited to get out in the cool weather of the 40′s here.

Jacksonville

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

We arrived in Jacksonville at 7:15 which is 45 minutes behind schedule. There is significant rail construction in Seminole County which slowed our progress. While in Jacksonville we refueled both for the locomotives and for our food supplies. But it was a brief stop of 25 minutes.

We are back on the rails heading north. The Patrols are eating their chicken finger meals now and soon will begin to prepare for a night of quiet travel.

I’ll let you know where we are when I go to sleep.

Departure from WPB

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

We staged and boarded our train as planned. Our train pulled away from Mangonia Park at 12:07 PM. The Patrols are rolling north eating and snacking as they play and talk.

I’ll update again later this afternoon.

Trip 1 Departs Thursday, January 10

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Our first trip to Washington, D.C. leaves Palm Beach County on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Parents will bring their students to school that morning, and students and chaperones will be transported to the train by school bus.

PARENTS – Plan to say your good-bye at school, because you are asked NOT to come to the train station that day. Students are preparing to board the train and will not be available for hugs, kisses, or photos.
