Mr. Powell’s Class Takes Flight
By: Taquan W.
Mr. Powell’s 3rd block science class learned about trial and error, the fun way. Students first had to make a design of an airplane out of paper. Then, they went in the hallway and threw them to see how far they could fly. After noting how far their planes flew, students then went back into the class to record their results. The next step was to use observations about what worked and did not work with the first plane to make improvements on their designs. The students then tested their new, improved planes and compared the results of the second flight to the first.
Students were able to use paper clips, 1 sheet of paper, and staples in order to make their planes. Mr. Powell shared with the class that weight does not affect the way the plane flies. Students enjoyed this activity, especially the competition to see who plane could travel the farthest.
