RMS News Try Outs

By: Llesica O. & Julia V.

Auditions for the RMS news next year are on Wednesday May 15th. The forms for the auditions are due on Wednesday May 1st. The applications include a teacher recommendation, you have to know what job you want on the news team, and you have to say why you want to be on the news.

Also you have to include whether or not you have used either a MacBook or an iPad to create a video, plus on the back of the application you have to write a script for the video you will be doing at the audition. You must have a parent or guardian signature on the application.

We interviewed some former RMS news members and this is what they had to say:

We asked Hafsa H. What advice do you have for people going into the RMS news? This is what she had to say “It’s not all fun and games. It’s serious business. Always keep calm and be organized, responsible, and enthusiastic.”

We also asked Angela B. What was it like during the audition? This is what she said “Speak loudly, and look at the camera. Act natural, there is nothing to worry about. Improvising is sometimes a key aspect, so don’t memorize your script. Don’t be afraid to change some things.”

For any information and questions ask Ms. Smykla in the Media Center in room 1-201 and application forms are also available.

Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Stern

SternBy: Hassana O. &  Deondre G.

Mr. Stern is an eighth grade world history teacher who has shown respect and honor to his students. In Mr. Stern’s first year of working at RMS he won favorite male teacher in the eighth grade superlatives.

Mr. Stern is famous for his sense of humor while teaching, which is a technique he uses to help troubled students achieve their full potentials, along with letting his students know that anyone can achieve success.

Some might think that Mr. Stern won favorite male teacher because of his rewards, but Mr. Stern tries to instill that life’s reward is earned through hard work, so he doesn’t give rewards.

Mr. Stern who has been teaching for over 10 years said “I was inspired to become a teacher by my wife, who has been teaching all her life; and my mother, who has always been an inspiration to me.”
