Since we have been discussing mass movement in Integrated Science, I figured I would post this article on recent mudslides that have people stranted in Machu Picchu
Mudslides are considered a “mass movement” Mass movement is the down slope movement of soil under the influence of gravity. It often occurs after torrential rain fall.

With the change in the weather, it is time to get out and explore your world! If you have Ms. Redding, you may recall the lab we conducted around the school looking for signs of weathering. You kept a log of the examples you found.
Another great activity is “Geocaching“. Geocaching is an activity in which you are given global coordinates for hidden “treasure” and you then you try to find it. A friend and I did it a few weeks ago (during Winter Break) and had a great time. All you need is a GPS or iPhone 3GS.

Since we are studying erosion and “mass movements” in Integrated this week, I found this really interesting article about possible mudslides in California.
Mudslides are caused when water from rainfall loosens soil and causes it to move en mass from one location to another. In the past, there have actually been mudslides that have caused devastating damage to communities. Read this article

If you have a spare 28.8 million dollars sitting around, you too can own a space shuttle! NASA announced that they would be cutting the price down from more than 40 million to 28.8 million dollars for one of the space shuttles when the shuttle program ends in a little over a year.
