A basic skill, whether you’re in chorus, handbells, or general music, is to be able to read music.  When people talk about literacy, they’re talking about being able to read.  When we talk about music literacy, we mean being able to read the music you are singing or playing.  With handbells, reading music is a necessity.  Many singers never get very good at reading music, though.  They just listen and follow along.  Not Wellington Landings singers!  By the end of the year, you won’t have any trouble reading music.

In addition to the exercises and worksheets we do in class, you can get some really great practice at the musictheory.net website.  Give it a try!
