Imagine it, make it happen! A blog about creativity, ideas and technology, by Mr. Goldstein and the teachers and students at Omni Middle School, Boca Raton, FL. A Project Smart Project.
June 4, 2010. Omni Middle School Yearbook wins top honors from yearbook publisher. Mr. Goldstein, Journalism Teacher, is the adviser.
From the Publisher’s announcement letter:
“Of the 2010 yearbooks inducted into Walsworth Publishing Company’s Gallery of Excellence, your 2010 Omni Middle School yearbook has been honored as one of the selections.
“The Gallery of Excellence is a showcase of yearbooks produced by Walsworth customers. Yearbooks for the gallery are distinguished by their comprehensive coverage, innovative design and superior copy and photographs. Your 2010 yearbook is in the gallery because it is an example of these criteria and is representative of yearbooks from across the country.
“Only a small percentage of the yearbooks we publish are chosen for this distinction. As part of this honor, your yearbook is shared with many people several ways. These yearbooks are used by our nationwide sales force as quality examples, are loaned to schools across the country to serve as idea generators, and are displayed at regional, state and national conventions and workshops. Also, spreads from many of these yearbooks are used for example illustrations in Walsworth’s educational materials.
“Congratulations on this outstanding achievement. You and your staff are to be commended for your hard work and dedication to excellence. Good luck as you work to continue building a tradition of yearbook excellence at your school.”
This is the third year in a row that the Omni yearbook has won this award.

For the year in review section, write about the earthquake that hit Haiti. In your writing, address the questions of who, what, where, when, how and why to give your reporting of what happened. You can look online to research to find out what happened, and then write it up in your own words. Minimum length: 6-8 sentences. Can be longer. Work on conveying through words the impact of the earthquake on the people of Haiti.
Below is a list of some design opportunities for the yearbook:
