paper tower challenge

The paper tower challenge is a challenge to see who can make the largest tower out of only paper and tape. Mr. Goldstein gave us an 8.5 X 11 piece of paper, 12” of tape and scissors. The rules were that you couldn’t have the scissors attached to the structure, the tower had to be connected to the table and you only had 20 minutes.

We found the time limit of time challenging. We also found the lack of materials challenging.  When our tower started to fall down we didn’t have a lot of time to fix it so it was leaning over when we measured it.

Our tower ended up being 23 ½ inches tall. To make it taller we could of cut the tape long ways so we had to use. We could of also cut the paper differently.

We worked well as a team because we both shared our ideas and then found a way to make the tower. We could of worked better by putting more ideas out there. We learned that sometimes working as a team is hard but its better to have 4 or 6 hands then only 2. We learned that trying to solve a problem might be harder than it looks or seems

The paper tower challenge was hard but we learned a lot. It was fun to work as a group but also difficult.

Invention Essay
By Bruno F
Me and Jack .E worked as a team to create an idea by looking for objects in the room to see if it’s eligible. We both had a hard time agreeing on one thing, when we finally agreed on something. We both agreed on the idea of making my watch a teleporting device that teleports objects from your house to your current location. We first started off by making sketches of how the watch would look and how it works. Then we decided to just leave it the way it was. So then, we started on the poster. It took really long to finish it due to our disagreeing. We were the last ones to finish it. When we finally finished the poster, we were thinking of ideas for the video we were going shoot.

Our invention was the “T-Bolt”. The T-Bolt is a watch that can teleport any object from your house to your current location. How, you ask? Well first you would have to scan the object by pressing and holding the “T” button on the watch. When you do that, a beam should come out of the watch. When the beam comes out, you have to scan the objects you want. The T-Bolt has no limit! You can scan endless object to your watch. Then, when you need the object, you simply press the “T” Button and type in what you need. After you type it in, the object will come out of the other side. It’s that easy!

Jack and I came up with the idea by first brainstorming for any eligible objects around the room. When we finally decided to use my watch, we started making thumbnail sketches for our poster. We drew out examples of what we would draw in our poster. When we finished, with our ideas, we started on our poster. We first started of by drawing the title of our invention on our poster. Me and jack decided that our strategy was “I draw, and he colors.” So I drew the watch and he colored it. When we finished the watch, we started writing a description of the T-Bolt that tells what it does, why you should buy it, and how much it costs.

Next, Jack and I wrote a script for our video that we were going to shoot. Our script was about our characters speaking of the T-Bolt and the problem one of the characters was facing, which was forgetting his wallet. After we finished the script, we started on the storyboard. The storyboard was going to be what was happening in our video. When we shot the video, we faced a lot of problems, like saying our parts wrong. What we did differently was practice a little them shot the video.

What we learned was how to do so many things on the computer, like how to edit the video in Windows Moviemaker. We also had a lot of fun.

Essay Quiz

My In invention was the ultra pen 5000.  It took a really long time to come up with an idea and we thought this one was really good. The thumbnail was easy because all we had to draw was a pen also it was fun. Designing the poster was really fun and I enjoyed the whole process. The hardest part with designing a poster was that if we messed up it would look bad and we would get a bad grade. Also we all agreed on what color to make all the stuff. It was a good experience to work with my friends and have fun. When we started it was very hard to find a good invention. We struggled to find a good idea but then once we got the idea we went from there. We had other great ideas but this one would make the best project. I really enjoyed the experience and hope to have more fun experiences like this. It   made me exited to come to school and put something in my mind all day throughout school and made me have something on my mind. Also I would like to say that I am extremely excited to film our video.

The Invisicloak

I’m Alex and I am the co-inventor of the Invisicloak. While working with Jacob we came up with the Invisicloak. On our blog page you can see our poster, thumbnail sketches, storyboard, and commercial.

My invention is the Inviscloak. The Invisicloak is a cloak that turns you invisible by refracting the light around you. With this invention you can pull awesome pranks on your friends or enemies. This incredible invention can be yours for $365.12 + Shipping and Handling and tax.

It was difficult to come up with an idea for our invention because Jacob and I both have different interests. It took us about 10 minutes to settle on the Invisicloak. We chose this idea because it was a mix of both of our interests.

This process has been long and difficult. After finally settling on an idea we then had to make thumbnail sketches that would be like mini-posters for our invention. The thumbnail had to include a picture, the name of the invention, what it does, and the price. Next, we made a poster for our invention. This was extremely challenging because Jacob was absent for three days in a row, but insisted that he should do the coloring because he was much neater and had good markers. So I was stuck doing nothing for three days. I think the poster came out good.

I wrote our script while Jacob was out. Our script described what our invention did, how much it costs, and why you should buy it. It also included a prank that you could pull on your friends or enemies with the Invisicloak.

I also did the storyboard while Jacob was gone. The first shot would be me putting on the cloak and becoming invisible. This was an establishing shot. Our next shot was me talking, but I was not in the picture because I had the cloak on and was invisible. This was also an establishing shot. The next shot was me pulling on Jacob he would spill his water, and then he thinks someone pushed him, then he realized no one was there. This was a pan shot. The next shot was me taking off the cloak after the prank. This was a medium shot.

The video was my favorite part. It was very windy and difficult to hear the person talking. To solve this we moved the person talking closer to the camera. We had to take at least 25 shots even though we only needed 5. I would have chosen a different day to shot when the weather was better.

I have really enjoyed this project. I have found that it is easier to work with a small group. Coming up with an invention is a long and difficult process, but it pays off in the end. I cannot wait to finish the project. Below is our storyboard, thumbnail, poster, and video.

PATENT FOR THE INVISICLOAK

ABSTRACT
The Invisicloak is a one of a kind product that turns you invisible. It refracts the light around you to make you invisible. It looks like an average robe that comes in many colors. This idea was chosen because it was a mix of both the inventors’ interests. It has three important parts the hood, jagged edges, and body. It also has many possible side effects.

CLAIMS
The Invisicloak can refract the light around you to make you invisible. This appears to be just your average cloak, but it has powers beyond its years. You will be able to turn yourself invisible whenever you want. You can pull a prank on your friends or enemies. It also has many other uses such as sneaking out, running around doing whatever you’re not supposed to do with no one noticing, and stealing something.

DESCRIPTION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This is a piece of clothing that does much more than people think. It looks like an ancient medieval robe. It comes in black, white, or grey.

BACKGROUND
This was invented to give kids entertainment. It has many uses and features that would keep kids entertain for hours on end. This idea was chosen because it was a mix of both of the inventor’s interests. Both of us agreed that this would be a creative and useful product. This is a one of a kind invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This cloak turns you invisible the second you put it on. It was invented to keep kids entertained. The cloak won’t just work for anyone you need to believe it will work, and then you will see what it does. However, because you are invisible nobody else will see you. It has many uses that can entertain kids as well as adults (i.e. pranking a friend or enemy, automatically winning hide and go seek, sneaking around whenever you want, and anything else you should not be doing.) One of the most impressive parts of this is that if someone runs into where you are while you have the cloak on they don’t feel anything.

DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
That is the drawing of a fully assembled Invisicloak. The hood (fig. 1) is the most important part of the invention. It has the powers to turn you invisible. The body (fig. 2) is meant to fit snug tight on your body. The jagged edges on the arms and bottom (fig. 3) are used to try to keep only your body inside the cloak.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
There is nothing to compare this invention to. It is the first of its kind and most likely the last. It contains three important parts. The body of the cloak is meant to cover your body. The arms and bottom of the cloak are jagged to help the user put the cloak on and keep only the user in the cloak. The hood is the most important part of the cloak. The hood is what activates the cloaks powers. Once you put the hood on the cloak turns everything the cloak covers invisible. Hence, the cloak is meant to fit the user snug tight in order to ensure that no parts of nature go missing once the cloak is used. However, there are a few side effects to this product [i.e. invisible pants syndrome (invisible pants syndrome is when you take your cloak off and it appears that you have no pants on), lack of visibility when viewing other mammals, loss of brain syndrome, when you take off the cloak you appear to be missing a head, and many many more.] More specific instructions come with the product.

THE INVISICLOAK SCRIPT
Scene 1: Hi there, I’m Alex here to tell you about The Invisicloak. All you have to do is put it on and (pause until person wearing cloak is out of picture.) Just like that you are invisible. The Invisicloak refracts the light around you to make you invisible. You may not be able to see me, but I’m still here. You could use The Invisicloak to pull an awesome prank on your friends like this.
Scene 2: (random person is drinking a water bottle) Person wearing cloak: SHHHHHHH……. (Person drinking water spills water and gets mad as if someone knocked it over.)
Person drinking water: Hey! Who did that? Come back here. (Person then looks around, realizes no one is there, and then makes a confused face.)
Person wearing cloak (not in picture): With The Invisicloak you’ll be the prank master. This incredible invention could be yours for just $365.12 plus shipping and handling and tax. You’ll be the coolest kid in the school once they find out it’s you under the hood. (Person wearing cloak takes off hood.)

FAMOUS INVENTOR

The Invisicloak – Essay by Jacob N.

I’m Jacob and I am the co-inventor of the Invisicloak. While working with Alex we came up with the Invisicloak. On our blog page you can see our poster, thumbnail sketches, storyboard, and commercial.

Our invention is the Inviscloak. The Invisicloak is a cloak that turns you invisible by refracting the light around you. With this invention you can pull awesome pranks on your friends or enemies. This incredible invention can be yours for $365.12 plus Shipping and Handling and tax.

It was difficult to come up with an idea for our invention because Alex and I had different ideas on what the invention would be. It took us about 10 minutes to settle on the Invisicloak. We chose this idea because it was a mix of both of our ideas.

This process has been long and difficult. After finally settling on an idea we then had to make thumbnail sketches that would be like mini-posters for our invention. The thumbnail had to include a picture, the name of the invention, what it does, and the price. Next, we made a poster for our invention. This was extremely challenging because I was absent for three days in a row, but I insisted that I should do the coloring because I was much neater and I had good markers. This set us back quite a bit. I think the poster came out good.

Alex wrote our script while I was out. Our script described what our invention did, how much it costs, and why you should buy it. It also included a prank that you could pull on your friends or enemies with the Invisicloak.

Alex also did the storyboard while I was gone. The first shot would be Alex putting on the cloak and becoming invisible. This was an establishing shot. Our next shot was Alex talking, but he was not in the picture because he had the cloak on and was invisible. This was also an establishing shot. The next shot was Alex pulling a prank on me. I would spill my water, and then I think someone pushed me, and I can’t see anyone. This was a pan shot. The next shot was Alex taking off the cloak after the prank. This was a medium shot.

The video was my favorite part. It was very windy and hard to hear Alex talking. To solve this we moved Alex closer to the camera. We had to take at least 25 shots even though we only needed 5. We would have chosen a different day to shoot when the weather was better, but it was a turn system and we chose to have the first turn.

I have really enjoyed this project. I have found that it is easier to work with a small group. Coming up with an invention is a long and difficult process, but it pays off in the end. I cannot wait to finish the project.
