IdeaNotes
A place to brainstorm ideas for our blog…..
Our blog is a place for creativity. IdeaNotes is like playing in a sandbox. Got an idea for our blog? This is the place to offer ideas, play with them, and see where they might lead. This is the place to input ideas as a precursor to making them happen.
Got a suggestion for a post or a page? This is the place to make it.

I’d like to use the Technology page as a place for the “Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology.” This is an explanation of the Standards for Technology. Each standard could include pictures of activities and projects we’ve done in class that relate to that standard.

I’d like to have a page that delineates the key concepts and skills yearbook students should know and be able to do.

I want to figure out how to embed a .swf file in a blog page. I want to be able to display Flash projects such as game programming in the “About” page.

We should create our own headers that randomly rotate. The headers would consist of backgrounds students have designed in Photoshop and could feature electronic and scanned images that students have created. I think this blog allows you at least seven different images, perhaps more can be added. The header itself would be a showcase of the talent we have here at Omni.

Can a student created video, posted to the vodcast server, be embedded in the header?

How about a collaboration page with subpages. These could be collaborations with various teachers/subjects: Band, Drama, Family and Consumer Science, Business, P.E. Reading, Clubs, Sports, PTSA, Reflections, Art, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies…..
This would harmonize very nicely with our yearbook efforts to take pictures and portray a year at Omni…..

Need to start seeding collaborative pages. Post pictures and content as an invitation to other teachers to start participating in this project and collaborating, giving them an opportunity to showcase what’s happening in their own classrooms and projects.

This is the place to let the thoughts flow out….I want to create posts on topics, but not necessarily have them on the blog on the home page, until I’m ready to work with it with the students…want to wait until it’s contextually appropriate…yet I want to be developing them now….Perhaps do these on a Page or Pages (either already existing or create them).

Question: How do I upload a large quantities of photos to a page without having to upload and handle them one by one? Handling them one by one is very time consuming and becomes tedious for large quantities of photos. There’s a Photo Album feature that I tried, but I couldn’t get it to work.

I’d still like to learn how to use Joomla to extend what we are able to post and how we can post it. That’s another project to play around with on the side.

Can’t copy and past a .pdf file into a comments box. Have to post separately using my log in, and then link, which is very labor intensive for me…..

Create a central data base for signed Consent to Publish forms collected through the school registration process. These should be entered into an Excel spreadsheet that can be sorted by various criteria (alphabetically and by grade). Share these on the network so teachers and I have access to them.

Over vacation, work on mastering Photoshop. I am particularly interested in character creation–painting with Photoshop and making it look lifelike. Also explore type ideas and background effects. Create tutorials integrating Photoshop and InDesign.

Ended up posting sketchbooks not in .pdf format but in video format. Posted to vodcast server and linked in comments section with embed code to accompany each students comment/response to sketchbook post. I like being able to see the image, rather than having to click on a link to first see the image–much more direct and powerful.

Working on installing a content management system, Concrete 5, to the FIRN web hosting server. Hoping that it’s easier to learn than Joomla. Got everything configured. Need to post it to the server; the web server is currently down.
Can student have a certain level of privileges to edit/post content to web pages (a privilege that would allow them a certain level of access to the editing functions, but not allow them to post–it needs to be moderated.
Also looking at another content management system, Drupal. This allows multi-users to access and edit the web pages, which I like. You can assign a certain level of privilege (access) to each user.
