Black History Month

As you all know February is the Month set aside to celebrate the many achievements of African-Americans. This was begun by Dr. Carter G. Woodson when he set aside to study the history of Blacks in America (something that had not been done before). It initially started as “Negro History Week” in 1926 and became “Black History Month” in 1976. So this year we celebrate the 34th year of “Black History Month.”
Now along with a month celebrating African-Americans, we also have: “Native American Heritage Month”(November) “Women’s History Month”(March) and “Hispanic Heritage Month”(Sept. 15-Oct. 15). So here are some of the questions to discuss:
Is “Black History Month” necessary, or do you think it is important still? Do you think it is necessary in America now to have a month for different cultures, for example do we now need a month for Asian culture etc…? Or should they all just be taught together throughout the year?

I THINK BLACK HISTORY IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE CHILDREN OF NEW GENERATIONS NEED TO KNOW WHHERE THEY CAME FROM. YES OTHER MONTHS SHOULD BE GRANTED TO PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT CULTURES SO THEY CAN`T BE DENIED THEIR HISTORY LIKE BLACKS WERE.

I think that it is still important but not every culture needs a month

I think Black History Month is neccesary because if there was not Black History
Month, people would not take the time and appreciate the things that black people has done for us.

Yes, it is because the black people that changed the world should always be remembered. They put their lives forward to make a difference in what they believed in. We were tortured and beat because we were hungry and the whites would spit and us and not even think about how we felt. They called you negros and we werent even able to use the same restroom as them. Blacks were hung if they were in the whites area. We werent able to do lots of things because we were black. Thats how I feel about the whole thing. So for the people that want to know what I think: know that black history will always be remembered!!!!!!!

ITHINK IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE IT BUT NOT EVERY CULTURE SHOULD HAVE IT LIKE SWEEDEN AND SPAIN.

I think that Black History is still important with or without the month.I also think there should be months for other cultures too, because if it was all just tuaght through out the year, we wouldn’t be focusing on it as much as we would if it had its own month.

i think that it should be celebrated by everywhere in the world because if it didn’t happen theirr still would be slaves and ethnic cruelty.

It is important because it teaches the importance of the african american people that helped make the world what it is today.

Just Kidding. Not about my birthday just my first comment.Actually I think that all cultures should be taught throughout the year and not singled out into months because that makes me think that one race is put higher on a scale than another.

Black history month is important because the children of this generation should know were they came from and what they have come up to be. We should all appreciate what we have and if we didn’t appreciate it we would not understand the history of our society today and that is why i think black history month should always be remembered !!!

i think black history month is important and so are other cultures, but i dont think they need a month because then black history month wouldnt be that special.

I think it the month is very important because other generations can learn what other people did to change society. I also think there should be months for other cultures.

black history is important because it tells people how important black people is in history and the things they did so that blaxk people could have their rights andhave the same rights as whites.

i think every race should be celebrated together and that black history month should continue to be a celebration

I think Black History Month is important becuase blacks were not much appreciated in earlier years, therefore people should educate themselves about them now and stock up on knowledge of African Americans
