Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! 2012

Monday, January 23rd – Friday, January 27th

Daily Activities: Administrators and staff will pick quotes from their favorite authors to be read on the morning announcements.

Monday 1/23: “Kick Up Your Heels and Read” – Students will wear crazy or silly socks to show their support for literacy.

Drop Everything and Read (Last 10 minutes of 1st period) – Students may read a book/magazine of their choice.

Door Decorating Contest: Teachers will choose one class period and together with their students will decorate the front of their classroom door to showcase a theme, character, genre, or book. The top three classes will win an ice cream party. All doors should be ready for judging by Monday, January 23rd and should be displayed all week to promote literacy.

Tuesday 1/24:  “Be A Good Sport and Read” – Students will wear jerseys or sports team t-shirts to show their support for literacy. Students must wear a t-shirt under their jersey if it is sleeveless.  All other dress code rules should be followed.

Drop Everything and Read (Last 10 minutes of 2nd period) – Student may read a book/magazine of their choice.

Wednesday 1/25: School Wide Novel – Social Studies teachers will begin reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins with students. Students will get to keep a copy of the book once they have finished reading it.

Drop Everything and Read (Last 10 minutes of 3rd period) – Students may read a book/magazine of their choice.

Thursday 1/26: Mrs. Daniel, Ms. Jones, Mr. Neal, and Mr. Drolet will visit classrooms and read aloud from some of their favorite books.

Drop Everything and Read (Last 10 minutes of 4th period) – Students may read a book/magazine of their choice.

Friday 1/27: “Crazy About Reading” – Students will wear mismatched clothing to show their support for literacy.  Dress code rules for Friday only: Shorts, dresses, or skirts must be at least fingertip length. Jeans are ok. No low cut shirts or tank tops, no gym shorts, no hats, no clothing with inappropriate words or pictures, no open-toed shoes or sandals. Students must be mismatched if they are out of dress code.

Drop Everything and Read (Last 10 minutes of 5th period) – Students may read a book/magazine of their choice.

Book giveaways all week! Listen for your name to be called on the morning or afternoon announcements and you will receive a brand new book!
