I don’t know if I can accurately describe my day today.  It was supposed to be historic, groundbreaking, and memorable.  Instead, it was one bad thing after another.

Let me start at the beginning.  For the past month I have been working with a college student from Saskatchewan, Canada.  He is mentoring my 4th hour class and the children have been enthusiastic and excited by this collaboration.

After working with district specialist and testing the software, today was the day that we were going to have a face-to-face live feed between my class and Mr. Webb in Canada.

The children were ready with their questions and Mr. Webb was prepared with the activity that he created for my class.   Parents, administration, colleagues and district representatives were invited and ready to participate.

So what could possibly go wrong?  Everyone was prepared.  Did I mention that my school is involved in a technology upgrade and they chose last night to disable the wireless Internet and my sound system without telling the front office or me?

The first sign of trouble was during my 1st hour class when I realized my microphone was not working.  I checked the wires and then called for help.  Within 2 hours Mr. Garcia had the problem diagnosed and a representative from Audio Enhancement was in my room installing a brand new system.

All systems go…so I thought. The children were on task and the time had come to enter the “room” and welcome all the participants.  Unfortunately, every time I tried to enter the room I received an error message and I was unable to login.  Finally after repeated tries, I had to make a decision and I canceled the session.

I quickly sent off a message to informing everyone that due to technical difficulties the webinar was canceled.

Now here is the shocker. Because the problem was localized in my classroom, everyone else was able to sign in and they were all waiting for me.  Needless to say I was very disappointed by the turn of events but we will succeed eventually.

I will keep everyone informed when this event is rescheduled.  Special thanks go out to Mr. Garcia, Audio Enhancement, the phone guys, Mr. Waddington, Mr. Shoemaker and the patience of my students and Mr. Webb who were most disappointed.

    WOW ☹
    What a bummer.
    What’s wrong with people?
Was it that hard not to disconnect your room of all rooms?
I’m sure your make-up webinar will be awesome ☺
    See you soon.

Awww, the wonders of technology and human element that continues to interrupt it. Here’s hoping your next webinar with Mr. Webb goes as planned!

Wow. That totally stinks. I mean, I remember the mic not workin and I thought I was just having a bad start of the day, but that is way worse.
