Read for the Record

Uncategorized No Comments »

For the 3rd year in a row, FSE will be participating in  the Read for the Record Campaign to help promote early literacy and a love of reading.   This year, visiting readers (parents and staff members) will visit each K-2 classroom to read Ezra Jack Keats’ The Snowy Day.  Leading up to the big day, many of our primary teachers will conduct activities surrounding the book.   Our students in grades 3-5 are participating in activities surrounding the book in their fine arts rotations.  We are all looking  forward to the culminating activity and helping to Read for the Record on October 7th!

To find out more about Read for the Record at FSE contact your child’s teacher.

Read for the Record is an international campaign that encourages children to read the same book, on the same day in communities all over the world.

So, if you see a patrol, buy a coupon from them to help with your holiday shopping. They are also selling CHOCOLATE BARS for $1 each until the 1st of December. “Monthly Miles” is back!

Uncategorized No Comments »

“Monthly Miles” is a school wide health initiative used to encourage Freedom Shores students and families to ‘travel in fitness’.  Families will submit a form at the end of each month where they record the miles they walk, run, swim, and/or bike.  We will track the miles our Freedom Shores families travel on our Monthly Miles map (located in the main hallway).   At the end of the 2009-2010 school year we surpassed our goal by traveling around the United States and back up again to St. Augustine, FL.  This school year, our goal is to do the same or more.  On your mark, get set, GO!!!

READ, READ, READ

The school year has ended and our students have started their summer vacations.  We would like to encourage all of our students to continue to read during the break.  All of our students in grades K-4 were sent home with summer challenge packets that you can use as enrichment to help keep your child’s skills sharp this summer.  In addition, these packets include summer reading lists with books that may be of interest to your child.  The Palm Beach County School District also published   a summer reading list for all elementary school aged children.  To see the complete list, click here:

We hope that you have a wonderful and adventurous summer.  We also hope that your summer includes sharing the love of books and reading with your child.  If you read something interesting or have a recommendation of a good book for me, please leave a comment on the blog for me– I would LOVE to hear about it!
