Summer is here!

Uncategorized No Comments »

It is summer time, and why not take the time to relax with a good book. Make sure you visit the public library or your favorite book store to get great books to read this summer. Just like during the school year, we would like all students to continue reading for at least 30 minutes each day. If you find something that you really enjoyed reading, stop by the blog and add a comment or review of your book.

We would really love to here about the adventures that you take with books this summer. Who knows, maybe a book that you recommend will be one of our “Read with Us” books next school year.

Enjoy your summer,

Dr. Maupin & Mrs. Haines

Special Research Projects

Our Weblog has been somewhat silent for awhile.  Our third and fourth grade students have been completing special research projects to share through our blog.  In our computer enrichment class, some of our students practiced their research skills to complete research projects about famous African Americans who have made valuable contributions to American society. The students worked individually, or in groups,  to complete short projects or blog posts to share.  Over the next few weeks, we will be posting some of the final projects  created especially for our blog.

Lifeskill of the week: INTEGRITY

Uncategorized No Comments »

This week, FSE will focus on the Lifeskill of Integrity.  We define Integrity as: “To act according to a sense of what is right and wrong.”  Integrity is one of the most important Lifeskills that we teach our students.   We expect our students to demonstrate Integrity by:

  • recognizing when they have made an unwise choice and do all in their power to correct it.
  • Accepting responsibility for their actions.
  • Knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do right even if no one is watching.
  • Telling the truth even though there may be unpleasant consequences.
  • Walking away from peer group pressures to do negative things.

Each month, you will notice the Lifeskills that we are teaching each week on our family calendar.  As parents, you can help us in our efforts to teach the Lifeskills at home just by knowing the Lifeskills  and discussing them with your child.

Lifeskill of the Week: Initiative

Uncategorized No Comments »

This week at FSE, we will be practicing and exploring the LIFESKILL of Initiative.  Initiative is to do something of one’s own free will, because it needs to be done.  This month, our students have been taking the initiative to collect food for our local food banks through the Food for Families programs.  Students have been bringing in their donations each day and our 4th grade students have been sorting and boxing the items to get them ready for delivery.  Your family can support the LIFESKILL of Initiative by encouraging your child to be an original thinker, start and complete projects, and to think for himself or herself .

Career Day was a Huge Success!

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

On October 28th Freedom Shores students had the opportunity to enjoy presentations by many of our parents and community members regarding different careers.  We are extremely grateful to have the support of our community members who took time off to share their professions with us.  Each class participated in at least 2 different “career talks” and students had the opportunity to visit different stations that were set up around campus. We are also honored that our School District of Palm Beach County maintenance department took the time to share with our students many of the different careers that are represented within our district.  Thank you Zone Team!
