As we work on comprehension in non-fiction texts, we are focusing on Evidence and Elaboration techniques, such as facts, quotes, statistics, anecdotes and opinions. We are using these techniques to support our summaries and conclusions as we discuss and write about topics from non-fiction books.

All of our students are busy engaging in learning new things every day. Please ensure that your child is completing his/her homework assignments every night. Homework is a reinforcement of the learning that takes place during the school day. Thank you for your continued support. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
In Reading, we are on Unit 3 , which switches from fiction to non-fiction texts. Our focus is gathering key ideas and details, connecting ideas to determine the main idea, and transferring all the strategies we know about fiction to non-fiction books for better comprehension.
In Writing, we are still writing essays, but have moved from Opinion to ‘Informational” essays. As writers, we are making deliberate choices as to what and how information is presented in essays, and making big revisions to our writing.
